In 2018 I went through some significant life changes.

• Left my job and 20+ year career
• Was asked for a divorce after 20+ years of marriage
• Became an empty nester when my youngest went to college
• Sold my house (because of the divorce)

Since I had been on my wife’s health plan, once I got divorced, I had to find new health insurance!

Because I wasn’t working full time anymore, my income had dropped dramatically. I’m in my early 60s, so I’m too young for Medicare, but I didn’t think I could afford traditional health insurance.

I found healthcare.gov and the “Marketplace.” You may have heard of the Affordable Care Act (aka Obamacare) — it can help pay your health insurance.

I surfed the web, I read articles, I struggled to figure this whole health insurance thing out. But I felt stymied.

I felt I was missing something– and you don’t want to make a mistake with your health insurance!

So, I found a mentor. She was running her own insurance agency. She told me many, many people need help figuring out with the best Health Insurance is for them.

There are so many different Plans– hundreds of them. Did you know there’s more than one kind of Medicare Plan? How many Marketplace Plans are there? Dozens more.

Not only that, some of these plans have $0 (that is “zero”) monthly premium! Wow.

So, I began to do a “deep dive”. After all, I had plenty of time on my hands. And  that led to me becoming a licensed Health and Life Insurance agent in the state of Texas.

Now, I’ve got great health insurance. My premium this year is a little over $200 per month (even though it costs over $800 per month!). My plan even has little awards (and a gift card) you can earn by doing healthy things.

How do I feel about Health Insurance now? I’m relaxed.
